2008 Mashed
Chris from Culture Bully asked me recently to provide an unreleased bootleg with songs from 2008. Luckily, I got something fitting his demand: a long multi-sources bootleg (7 minutes) featuring Radiohead, Franz Ferdinand, Devo over LCD Soundsystem remixed by Soulwax. Tasty uhh?… en deux versions comme le remix de Franz Ferdinand.
Chris de Culture Bully m’a demandé récemment de lui fournir un bootleg inédit contenant des chansons sorties en 2008. Coincidence heureuse, j’avais ce qui lui fallait: un long bootleg multi-sources de 7 minutes avec Radiohad, Franz Ferdinand et Devo par-dessus LCD Soundsystem remixé par Soulwax. Pas mal, non?… it comes into two versions just like the Franz Ferdinand remix.

Come out of 2008
Pour terminer l’année, voici quelques bootlegs bien différents, le plus intéressant et aussi plus récent étant celui qui mélange trois morceaux rock bien connus, il y aussi mon remix du single de Franz Ferdinand, Ulysses (j’ai attendu trop longtemps pour le soumettre au concours sur Beatport, la présence de deux deux versions n’est pas innocente). Il y a aussi deux bootlegs avec La Phaze (sûrement pas les derniers), groupe que j’apprécie énormément.
To end the year, here are few eclectic bootlegs, the most interesting and most recent being the one mixing three well-known rock songs, as well as my remix of Franz Ferdinand’s latest single, Ulysses (I waited too much to submit it to the Beatport remix contest, hesitating between the two versions of this remix, preferring the first one in the end). There are also two bootlegs featuring La Phaze (some people might have seen them in London back in January 2007), I really appreciate their music.

Pour fêter mon dix-millième jour sur cette Terre (ce qui me fait à peu près 27 ans et demi), j’ai décidé de faire un mix sur les stars du rock mortes autour de cet âge-là, le 27 Club. Thème morbide mais mix distrayant s’il en est 🙂

Le Mix de ToToM #0 : Bootwards special
Depuis le mois de décembre, je présente une émission dédiée aux bootlegs sur une radio locale appelée L’Autre Radio, 107.9 en FM pour ceux qui vivent dans le Haut-Anjou ou pas très loin (si vous ne savez pas où c’est, inutile de tester la fréquence) et pour tous les autres, sur leur site Internet. C’est une émission hebdomadaire qui passe le mardi soir à 18h30 en direct et est rediffusée le samedi dans la nuit à 1h (elle est aussi rediffusée sur Maxxhits Bootlegs une semaine après voire le vendredi qui suit selon l’actualité de l’émission — Vendredi 21h, Samedi 10h, Lundi 05h, Mardi 17h).
Le premier numéro (une sorte de pilote) consiste en un mix réduit de Bootwards 2 pour une moitié, d’une série de trois nouveaux bootlegs (nouveaux à la date du 9/12 en tout cas) et enfin d’un mini-mix du premier Bootwards qui était passé à l’époque dans le Zebramix sur Oui FM, donc je n’ai pas jugé utile de poster le lien pour télécharger, autant aller écouter le mix que j’ai fait pour Bootwards 2. Plus bas, je donne malgré tout les détails de mon mix.

Since, early december, I have a show on a local radio called L’Autre Radio (The Other Radio for the translation), you can listen to it on their website if you like. This show is recorded live every week on Tuesday at 6:30 PM Paris time (GMT+1) and is aired on Saturday nights at 1 AM. The show is also on Maxxhits Bootlegs about a week after the first air — Friday at 9 PM, Saturday at 10 AM, Monday at 5 AM, Tuesday at 5 PM.
This one is the first show I made (kind of a pilot), it consists into a short mix of Bootwards 2 for a half of the show, three new bootlegs (well, at least they were new on Dec. 9) and finally a mini-mix of the first Bootwards which was aired on Zebramix at the time on Oui FM, which is why I felt it was not necessary to post a link for you to download it, you might as well listen to the mix I made for Bootwards 2. Anyway, I’m giving all the details of the setlist.

Bootwards 2 : Mash Up Side Down
Here’s Bootwards 2 : Mash Up Side Down. After doing the Bootleg is Resistance (I still have a surprise for this), I needed something easier maybe, I already had a couple of bootlegs fitting to the original concept (rock acapellas over hip-hop/pop instrumentals) and many RockBand multitracks to use. This time, I asked for help to my fellow French bootlegger friends (Mighty Mike, Bogoss, ElectroSound, The Bootleague, Métamix, MichMash, Sebwax, Comar) who contributed to 11 mashups over 36. I managed to do a 80 minutes mix, I hope you’ll enjoy it, just click on the cover picture (made by Fissunix).
Voici Bootwards 2 : Mash Up Side Down. Après Bootleg is Resistance (surprise à venir), j’avais besoin de quelque chose moins prise de tête, j’avais déjà deux bootlegs prêts collant parfaitement au concept d’origine (acapellas rock sur instrus hip-hop ou pop) et beaucoup de multitracks tirés de RockBand à utiliser. Cette fois-ci j’ai demandé de l’aide à mes collègues bootleggers français (Mighty Mike, Bogoss, ElectroSound, The Bootleague, Métamix, MichMash, Sebwax, Comar) qui ont contribué pour 11 des 36 morceaux. Mashed in Plastic: the David Lynch mashup album
You might have heard about it, I made one track for this mashup album of a rare quality (thanks to Reborn Identity, Colatron, WaxAudio, Linus, and everyone who were involved). If, like me, you’re admirative of David Lynch’s universe, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

My Obama Boot
Because of the title especially, here’s a bootleg which fits well with the current election in the USA. As my bootlegs never comes alone, there’s another bunch of boots for all tastes as usual, I really trashed Radiohead’s Creep with Robert Palmer, you should hear that… I also had an enjoyable electro take on Talking Heads’ Psycho Killer, with the help of MSTRKRFT.
Surtout à cause du titre, voici un bootleg en rapport avec l’actualité outre-Atlantique qui mélange Lenny Kravitz & Estelle à Daft Punk. Bootlegger Rhapsody
Here are four very different bootlegs. I’ve been working on the first one for a while as I got the idea months ago. The only thing left to do was just filling in the blanks, Trent and Jim being very helpful for that :). The other ones are quite experimental (Bollywood, Bootwards 2), except maybe for the QotSA vs. Weezer one which is a « typical ToToM product ».
Voici quatre bootlegs très différents. Je travaille sur le premier depuis un moment vu que j’ai eu l’idée il y a plusieurs mois. La dernière chose à faire pour le finaliser était d’appeler à la rescousse quelques rockstars pour finir de remplir les trous et prendre les bonnes décisions d’arrangement. Les autres sont relativement expérimentaux (Bollywood, Bootwards 2), sauf peut-être celui entre QotSA et Weezer qui porte ma marque de fabrique.

There’s 4 mashups here, but I’m particularly proud of the one with My Sharona over Digitalism, let’s say the other three are freebies (one of them, Outkast vs. Pumpkins, is several months old). The one with Kenna over Justice is pretty similar but not as good imo.

Celts, Remakes & Nails
Before releasing the third volume of Bootleg is Resistance and let it occupy my front page during a few weeks, here are five boots using mostly the new sources that’s been available recently thanks to the Xbox 360 game Rock Band (don’t spam me for getting these, just google it smartly, you’ll be able to find everything). Sorry for those who would like to hear me concentrate on something else than NIN, there are two of them here featuring NIN. Two others are (improving) remakes of existing bootlegs (by Aggro1 & Stark Effect) and the last one (in two versions) is a celtic sounding mashup for a BootlegsFR contest.
Avant de sortir le 3ème volume de Bootleg is Resistance et le laisser occuper le haut de mon site durant quelques voici 5 bootlegs qui utilisent principalement les nouvelles sources qui ont été rendues disponibles grâce au jeu pour Xbox 360, Rock Band (ne me spammez pas pour ça, une recherche google un peu maligne vous ouvrira grandes les portes de la caverne d’Ali Baba). Désolé pour ceux qui aimeraient me voir me concentrer sur autre chose que NIN, mais on a encore deux coupables parmi ces cinq-là. Deux autres sont des remakes (améliorés bien entendu) de bootlegs existants (by Aggro1 & Stark Effect) et le dernier (en deux versions) est un mashup à la sauce celte pour un concours sur BootlegsFR.
