Participations #2 a.k.a. Internet Calling

Ceux qui suivent mon Mix de ToToM entendent pas mal d’exclusivités et savent que je suis un peu en mode rétention de mashups depuis le début de l’année, surtout par flemme de devoir passer autant de temps à faire un bootleg qu’à les rendre publics sur divers sites, forums et autres plateformes de réseaux sociaux (et encore, je ne produis pas mes vidéos et je ne démarche pas les blogs). Rien que ce post, je peux le faire parce que je suis chez moi cette semaine. Bref, j’aime bien faire des bootlegs mais la phase Internet commence à me saoÃ»ler (oui c’est un peu un appel à l’aide).
Pour en venir au fait, souvent j’ai des demandes pour des participations à des compilations et il se trouve que j’ai quelque chose sous la main qui correspond, c’est le cas de mon Baby I’m Calling qui sonnait assez ensoleillé pour apparaÃ®tre sur la compilation de DJ Useo, Summer Booty 2011, qui célèbre l’été en mashups. Au même moment, j’ai produit un bootleg qui fait partie du mix collectif 72 #3 (dont le principe est de donner 72h à chaque participant pour produire sa partie), avec le même acapella, c’est-à-dire London Calling des Clash.

Those listening regularly to my Mix de ToToM have the chance to hear quite a number of exclusive tracks of mine and understand I’ve been kinda hoarding some of my mashups for a year or so, mostly a result of my laziness, having to spend as much time in producing mashups as in « spreading them » on blogs, forums, social networks… (and again I’m not producing my own videos, I don’t submit my work to bloggers randomly). The reason I can write a post this long is just because I’m home this week. Anyway, I LOVE to produce bootlegs but the Internet phase is starting to annoy me (yeah that’s a bit of a call for help).
However, let’s talk about bootlegs, I often get request to participate on one’s compilation and thanks to my hoarding laziness, I always have something to provide that fits the demand, just like my Baby I’m Calling which sounds sunny enough methinks to appear on a compilation Summer Booty 2011 by DJ Useo, celebrating this summer in mashups. At the same moment I produced this track a few months back, I produced a bootleg for the collective GYBO mix 72 #3 (which consists in giving 72 hours to each bootlegger to produce its own part, from scratch). Both mashups feature the same acapella, London Calling by The Clash.

Le Mix de ToToM #97 : Staring at Electro Sounds

Cette semaine, un Mix de ToToM consacré en grande partie au dernier album de l’excellent ElectroSound, « Kitsuné Maison Mashed Vol. 4 », ainsi que mon remix de TV on the Radio (masterisé par VicTo) et un choix de mashups qui vont bien.

Mashy Time (ToToM vs. La Phaze)

Voici un mini-album de mashups fait à partir des acapellas qui proviennent pour la plupart de l’album de La Phaze, « Miracle » (2008), généreusement fournis par le groupe. Le mini-album consiste en 7 mashups plus 3 bonus tracks. La Phaze qualifient leur propre musique de « pungle » (entre punk et jungle) mais j’ai essayé d’emmener ces chansons le plus loin possible de leur style d’origine, de la pop aérienne jusqu’au dubstep (même si dans ce cas-là on en est pas très loin) ou en mélangeant la voix de Damny à quelques groupes emblématiques voire en adoucissant la musique de chansons à l’origine agressives sans pour autant altérer le message d’origine (en tout cas j’espère).

D’ailleurs, je vous invite à aller écouter Psalms & Revolution, le dernier album de La Phaze tout juste sorti. (lien Spotify)

Here’s a mashup mini-LP made around acapellas mostly from La Phaze album « Miracle » (2008), generously provided by the band. It consists into 7 mashups plus 3 bonus tracks. La Phaze often call their own music « pungle » (between punk and jungle) but I tried to bring these vocals as far as possible, going from dream pop to dubstep (my first dubstep mashup, which doesn’t bring La Phaze that far from their music actually) also mixing Damny’s vocals to a few legendary bands or even softening their originally quite aggressive-sounding songs yet without betraying the original lyrics (but you probably don’t care as the only reason you read until there is that you can’t speak French).
